BIM - quality checking of the future building

various practical projects related to BIM were conducted over the last years. Both at university and in practise, the project always aimed for:
supporting the decision making by respecting the office's culture and setting targets which are specific to the project.

Augmented BIM

This small project is proof-checking the use of contemporary smart phones in relation to quality assurance of building information data on site. Linking the information from standard CAD/BIM tools such as Autodesk Revit to augmented reality showed its benefit and limitations. the export and parsing of BIM-data is easy. The overlay with reality shows clusters and relations to other contextual information such as landmarks of energy demands.

Aim is to quickly access information about space/zones from BIM-CAD-software on mobile phones. The end-user-interface is an Augmented-Reality-software (in this case Wikitude) on an Android phone. The proof used an Autodesk Revit model of an Alvar Aalto building, Autodesk Ecotect, PhP and Wikitude on a G1 Android smartphone. The translation-script is written in PhP. This is an example to quickly show hidden building information as it is registered in BIM (Building Information Modelling) files around the world.

The movie below documents the proof of concept usinga notional building next to the School of Architecture in Copenhagen, Denmark.
